the electrix mo-fx is a tempo-synchronized digital stereo multi-fx-processor with 4 effects modules and switchable 3-band frequency separation. the single effects modules contained in this package are distortion, flange, tremolo and delay. the multi-effect-structure is basically parallel, with the exception that the distortion module output can be used as input for the other modules. a 'level' pot on each module determines the effect level sent to the sum mix present at the stereo outputs. each module presents an 'engage' switch used to switch it in and out of the mix, and an additional large 'momentary' button which brings the module's effect in and out of the mix as long as it is pressed. 'momentary' lets the module loose on the signal as you press it, or cuts it out, depending on 'engage' being 'on' or 'off' - very useful to play with in live situations, obviously. then there is a 'sync' feature integrated in the flange, tremolo and delay modules and directly controlled with the large 'sync' button on the far right of the panel. the unit can be either synced to midi-clock or to a manually tapped tempo using the 'sync' knob. each module then has its own 'sync' switch, which locks lfo rates or delay time to the master tempo, then the timing can be adjusted with each unit's 'speed' knob to different factors (master being 1/4, the factor can be set from x8 to ./.4; including 1/16triplets :-) ). also present in each of the flange, tremolo and delay modules is the unique 'band' switch, which lets you choose any combination of the high, mid and low frequency bands of the input signal to be effected by the module. they can also be used to configure 'kill switches'. the 'band' parameter is a very outstanding feature and provides lots of uses and uncommon effects. the single effects would not seem extremely interesting by themselves, but the combination of the modules with the extremely accessible sync facility, the outstanding 'band' processing possibilities and of course the user interface with beautiful knobs and switches for direct access to any parameter make it a powerful and very physical device. by syncing the effects to different fractions and playing around with combinations of different frequency bands on the different modules, it generates effects which would be quite complicated to replicate with other equipment, and there are many new sounds in there to discover. also, with the selected frequency bands it is possible to create very intense but 'clean' effects - heavy flanging without muddy bottom end, pronounced tremolo or panning in the mids but uneffected bass - all easy to dial up. it is good to use a noise gate behind the mo-fx, because the output is a bit hissy.
