electro-harmonix deluxe electric mistress effect pedal

the deluxe electric mistress is a flanger/filter matrix built into eh's trademark large pedal casing.

the jack sockets on the back are signal input, effect out and direct out. on the back is also a switch to change between flanger and filter matrix operation. the panel knobs control color (i.e. resonance), rate of the internal sinewave lfo and range of the lfo modulation applied to the center frequency of the effect. the sound of the unit in 'flanger' mode is very characteristic, it has a pronounced metallic ring to it, strong in the mid as well as in the high frequency bands, and is easily driven into self-oscillation at higher color settings. when applying modulation with the lfo, the sound begins to move with vigor. basically, switching to filter matrix disconnects the internal lfo modulation and the unit operates as a static comb filter, very nice to add color to a sound and allowing for manual sweeps with the knobs.

as the sound of the deluxe electric mistress is everything but subtle, it is especially effective on percussion, where the ring of beginning self-oscillation can be used to accentuate and drive elements to the foreground, also the characteristic sweeps are great for ploughing through pad sounds and sequencer lines to great effect.
