electro-harmonix drum sequencer

the eh drum sequencer is an 8-step, slider controlled, non-quantized analogue sequencer with built-in squarewave sound source. it can be used as a step sequencer, multistage envelope or as a tone generator for your electronic drumkit.

this unit offers a total of ten sliders (decay, rate, 8x pitch) for adjustment and two switches (single/repeat, clock/pad) to determine the wanted function. five jacks are provided for incoming (trigger, clock) and outgoing (audio, cv, clock) signals. when used in 'single' mode and activated by slapping the leather pad or sending a trigger to the trig in, it can be used as a drum synth. by setting the sequence speed very high and adjusting the decay slider, the whole 8-step sequence can be played as sort of an 'additive drum sound', as the sequence is played so fast that it is perceived as a single composite sound. at lower sequence speed it can also be used as a simple 8-stage envelope generator, when using the cv output.

with the sequence switched to 'repeat' mode and an external signal present at the clock input, it can be used like an old-fashioned analogue sequencer, the sliders producing a control voltage that is available at the cv output jack, which can be sent to any other voltage controlled equipment. the built-in squarewave oscillator is sometimes even useful in this setting, despite its very basic features - pitch is controlled by the sequence and decay is set by a slider. the unit can produce some surprising sounds by itself, mainly because of the way the sound source is linked to the sequencer: the wide pitch range and in addition the fierce range of the 'rate' slider, which can be set so fast that new timbres are created from the pitch settings as well as the implementation of the 'decay' parameter.
